Abstract
Phosphate and hemiadipate derivatives of cardioprotective flavonols are water soluble prodrugs that release superoxide scavenging and vasorelaxant parent drugs. These prodrugs protected against ischaemia/reperfusion injury in two distinct animal models, rat hindlimb and sheep heart, and are thus promising small molecule therapeutics for cardiovascular disease. © The Royal Society of Chemistry.
